Common Questions

  • What is the lead time?

We strive to maintain a 8-10 week lead time. As many of our doors are custom-made, this is subject to change. Our aim is to please.

  • What is the cost?

The cost depends on the design. Our standard doors are the least expensive with select and custom increasing in cost. Of the standard doors, the leaf is the least expensive because we use a laminate design which reduces the production time. The frame-and-panel design uses a solid wood frame with a laminate panel and is in the mid-range of cost. The all-solid-wood designs are the highest cost. The price range of the standard doors is $4300 - $5000

  • Can my door be customized? What are the options?

We love to create custom doors. If you can dream it, we can build it. The options are limitless in the custom line.

  • Can I use a Gryphon door for a certified Passive House, Living Building Challenge, LEED, or Net Zero project?

Gryphon doors were specifically designed for these projects. Given the continued need for high-performance doors. We can provide the specifications needed for your project to achieve certification; please contact us for more details regarding your certification program and specification needs.

  • How does this door compare to others?

We do not know of any other non-custom doors made in North America that match our standards. Most wood doors available in regular production are non-insulated and use conventional air sealing techniques. While there are other insulated wood doors available, Gryphon doors excel in both their insulating carbon-storing performance.

  • How often does a Gryphon door need to be maintained?

Maintenance depends on the finish and the exposure of the door. The amount of maintenance will vary from touch-ups to a maintenance coat re-application. Custom finishes may require more or less maintenance depending on the finish.

  • What happens if my door warps?

We will warranty the door warping more than ⅛” for one year. If your door warps beyond these specifications, let us know and we will be happy to provide further support. Solid wood is prone to movement, but we have designed our doors to stay as straight as possible and use state-of-the-art multi-point hardware designed specifically to resist warping. Please be sure to review all maintenance, operation, and warranty information to ensure you are caring for your door correctly and we are always here to chat if you have questions.

  • Why are Gryphon doors so expensive?

Costs vary widely between custom and standard doors. All custom doors are expensive. Gryphon doors only seem expensive when compared to mass-produced standard doors that don’t last as long, perform as well or look as good. When compared to a door built of similar quality (of which there are few), Gryphon doors are usually less expensive. This was our goal: to make an extremely high-quality standard door at a non-custom price.
